Step 2 of Using Amazon FBA: Shipping Method and Packaging
The Amazon FBA service offers significant opportunities for sellers. As mentioned in our previous articles, there are certain steps that users must follow and complete in order to benefit from Amazon’s FBA services. In this article, we will cover the second step of using Amazon FBA determining the shipping method and packaging on Amazon for our e-commerce sellers and followers who want to use Amazon FBA.
DETERMINING THE SHIPPING METHOD THROUGH YOUR AMAZON ACCOUNT
In order to sell on Amazon, as with all e-commerce platforms, you must first upload and list your products. Once you have completed the listing process on Amazon, you need to select the shipping method for your listed products by choosing the FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) option.
Alternatively, if you prefer to handle the shipping process of your products yourself without using Amazon’s FBA system, you should select the FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant) option.
SHIPMENT PACKAGING IN AMAZON FBA USAGE
If you want your products to be shipped within the Amazon FBA system, you must prepare the products you offer for sale in accordance with Amazon’s specified packaging requirements and then arrange their shipment to Amazon FBA warehouses. To carry out this process, you need to log in to your Amazon Seller account and visit the “Manage Inventory” page.
When you reach this section, based on the products you plan to ship, you are required to answer the questions presented to you and complete the necessary steps as requested.
These questions include:
- How many units/products will you be sending?
- What are the total number of cartons, as well as the dimensions and weights of the products to be shipped?
- Are the products inside the carton properly packaged and ready for shipment?
If your products are not packaged, Amazon requires sellers to have their products packaged before shipment. Additionally, the packaging requested by Amazon must be completed by sellers before shipment. This is because, within the Amazon FBA system, packages sent to fulfillment centers are not prepared by Amazon itself.
The packaging method referred to here aims to prevent damage to your products during storage and transfer to the warehouse. Moreover, since your products are stored on the shelves of Amazon warehouses according to specific standards, Amazon also requires packaging to comply with certain standards.
PRODUCT BARCODE NUMBER
Within the Amazon FBA system, Amazon requires specific barcodes to be affixed to the packaging of each product you send to the warehouse. If you do not wish to carry out this process yourself, Amazon can perform the barcode labeling on your behalf for a fee of $0.60 per package.
ENTERING THE CUSTOMER ADDRESS INTO THE SYSTEM
Before your products are shipped to the Amazon warehouse, the final step you need to check is whether the customer addresses have been entered into the system. Amazon requires that the destination addresses for your products be correctly defined in the system.
